Manchester City Thrash Aston Villa 4-1 to Maintain Title Charge
Foden's Hat-Trick Powers City to Victory
Manchester City kept the pressure on their Premier League title rivals with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Aston Villa on Wednesday evening.
Phil Foden was the star of the show for City, scoring a brilliant hat-trick to take his tally for the season to ten. Riyad Mahrez added the other goal for the visitors, while Ollie Watkins netted Villa's consolation.
City started the game brightly and took the lead after just 20 minutes. Foden was the scorer, finishing off a fine move involving Fernandinho and Raheem Sterling.
Villa fought back and drew level midway through the first half. Watkins was the scorer, heading home a cross from Douglas Luiz.
However, City regained the lead just before half-time. Foden scored his second of the night, firing home from the edge of the area.
City continued to dominate after the break and extended their lead in the 69th minute. Mahrez was the scorer, curling home a superb free-kick.
Foden completed his hat-trick in the 76th minute, tapping home from close range after good work from Sterling.
The victory sees City move back to within one point of leaders Manchester United. With just two games remaining in the season, the title race is set to go down to the wire.
