Hanzel Defeats Two-Time Champion Gene Elliott on First Playoff Hole

Canadian Mens Senior Championship Presented by BDO

Three rounds have been completed at the 2023 Canadian Mens Senior Championship presented by BDO at Big Sky Golf & Country Club in Pemberton, BC. Doug Hanzel's birdie putt on the first hole of a playoff sealed the win. Hanzel had a one-stroke lead after 54 holes, only to see Gene Elliott pull even with a birdie on the 18th hole of regulation.

In the playoff, Hanzel hit a great drive down the middle of the fairway, while Elliott found the rough. Hanzel then hit a great approach shot to within 12 feet of the hole while Elliott missed the green. Hanzel calmly rolled in the birdie putt to secure the victory.

"It feels great to win the Big Sky Golf Country Club Championship," said Hanzel. "I've been playing in this tournament for many years, and it's always one of my favorites. The course is in great shape, and the competition is always tough."

Hanzel's victory is his first in the Big Sky Golf Country Club Championship since 2019. He is now a three-time champion of the event.

Elliott, a two-time champion of the event, finished in second place. He shot a 1-under-par 70 in the final round.

Dave Bunker and Stephen Jensen remain tied for the lead in individual Senior Championship at 13450 Dublin Line Acton ON L7J 2W7.
